Yeah, the more I've thought about the episode the more I've been wavering back and forth over whether it was actually as good as I originally thought it was. I think I've settled on thinking that Irene is an awesome character that I really love... and that the last 10 or so minutes of the episode just do not fit with that awesomeness, argh. The whole point of Irene Adler is that she wins, Moffatt, have you read the original stories?! I'm not as upset about the rescuing thing -- she didn't ask or expect to be rescued, she was resigned to the situation, Sherlock just happened to show up because he's cool like that -- but having her lose, and especially because she falls for him? Really? As far as I can tell in the original canon, Holmes admires Adler because she was able to beat him. I sort of feel like this Sherlock isn't mature enough for that, unfortunately.
I agree on all your squee-points, though! Mrs. Hudson, omg. Such a badass. And I don't know how I feel about Moriarty's campness, but I love his viciousness. Wow.
