At long last, I have watched Being Human Season Two, and I am thoroughly smitten.
BBC black angsty comedy thing about vampires, werewolves, ghosts, men and women who are platonic friends, werewolves and vampires who are platonic friends, thinly-or-not-at-all-veiled portrayals of how society treats rape survivors and openly gay people, jokes, morbid jokes and tea. Also, the music is brilliant and the actors are hotter than is strictly legal and have amazing chemistry.
And yet. There is a Tarantino homage. There is a hypothetical Christian dystopia. There is acknowledgement that friendships, too, go through change and crisis. There are two strong, totally different female leads who are awesome friends and sometimes talk, not even always about blokes. There are brilliant episodic characters, including the tragic gay couple. There's tea again, and villains who believe in the Greater Good. There's a chilling glimpse of the afterlife. There's a lot of Annie saving the day. And, basically, everyone's angst stems from the fact that they're trying to achieve a heteronormative model of happiness - this is a story where polyamory could, indeed, solve everything.
My desire to fic-write is immense - it's not one of those constructive desires which actually lead to fic, but a rather pie-in-the-sky inclination to daydream about writing aforementioned happy polyamory story (wherein George woos Mitchell to resurrect Annie with Nina's permission, and then there's lots of happy threesome sex and experimental Mitchell/George and "Oh, fuckit, I want in on the fun too" Nina/Annie and Annie/Nina/George: and then Nina an George get a werewolf baby and Annie is its favourite parent, obviously, and also Mitchell maybe does fall in love with someone but not as means of blood therapy and the someone joins their magical polyamorous Cardiff house of awesome. [Maybe the someone is Tosh of Torchwood. The deadness is no real obstacle.])
... Not to mention a far kinkier, though equally happy and probably polyamorous story set in the hypothetical Christian dystopia, with Josie as a freedom fighter with a beret. (And George on a leash.)
In non-spoilery summary
If you loved season one, you might still hate this. There's angst, there's lots of cool new characters, everyone behaves like a dick a lot and it ends with a huge cliffhanger (of sorts). It's awesome in its own way. And the music is still amazing and the hots are still hot, yay!

Being Human, Season Two (also throwaway Torchwood spoiler)
Basically, everything you can imagine going wrong in a series like this does. There's vampire angst (aptly summarised by "Mitchell reads Twilight. Everybody dies."), werewolf angst, unnecessary gore, a tragic gay couple (half of which dies), unnecessarily high likelihood of rape attempts. There's less jokes and less happy friendshippy interaction. It is the bastard emo daughter of season one.And yet. There is a Tarantino homage. There is a hypothetical Christian dystopia. There is acknowledgement that friendships, too, go through change and crisis.
