Memeing for nefarious purposes.

Indeed, surprise nefarious purposes. Exam-related surprise nefarious purposes for the Greater Good.
ETA: I take it back. It's just meme pour meme, because my recording equipment is, inevitably, dead. It was going to be this thing where I practice for my eventual Speaking English Like a Motherfucking Adult exam by answering the questions out loud, but I'm too impatient (you people* gave me excellent characters) and have no idea when the equipment will start working again. So, I give you my textual answers, but feel free to stew in soft anticipation of Hearing Chilla's Voice one day soon.
*people on LJ, one person on DW. I probably ought to figure out this crossposting thing one day.
ETA2: Link to the LJ equivalent, if you're curious about further characters and possibly a catfight about Gunn:

[Also because I'd like to redirect my brain from some stuff.]
Pick <s>any</s> several! characters from a fandom of mine and I'll answer the following questions:
1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her.
2) Is he/she important to the general plot?
3) Can you relate to this character at all? Does he/she grip you emotionally?
4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?
5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by his/her relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)
6) Is there anything about the character you would change?
7) If you were in the fandom with this character or knew this character in real life, how would you see yourself interacting with him/her? Would you get along well? Fall in love with him/her? Dislike? Have a friendly rivalry?
8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or least favorites?
9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about this character (if you dislike) to someone new to fandom?
10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?
Also, come talk to me, o dreamcircle. How are you?

Regarding the Moz
Date: 2011-03-26 10:49 pm (UTC)And it's not for school, it's - I want to get a Certificate of Proficiency in English, which is given out by touring Cambridge profs, and which is kind of - the pinnacle of EFL achievement, and also very useful when applying for jobs and scholarships. And awesome. In preparation for it, I'm supposed to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (which is one of my favourite books) and to watch Shakespeare in Love (which I've always wanted to and I finally have an excuse!). So, awesome. But also difficult as hell. And I don't ever get to speak English out loud, so I've been practicing by recording myself. I've finally reached the point of Going Public - but, argh, my mic and computer are apparently unmixy things.
Also, I ADORE that your friend translated My Immortal! (What IS French for "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING YOU MOTHERFUKERS!"?) What subject is he doing it in?
Right, on to your meme!
Mozzie
1) I am fond of Moz like people are fond of socks of lava lamps. He amuses me, he's comfortable, he makes the show more homelike. I don't care too much about him outside of his role as a mentor/shadow-parallel/comic relief/actual friend, but I love the way he fits into those roles, because he's consistently human and cohesive and genuinely clever throughout.
2) He's important to the plot and he's important to the characters, and I'm pretty certain he's my favourite resident Deus Ex Machina provider.
3)I can't really relate to him at all. But he reminds me of a friend of mine, a genuinely brilliant armchair anarchists.
4) I actually like White Collar fandom! There's a lot of threesome fic, and a lot of kink, and relatively little drama. It's cozy.
5) I liked Moz and June's interaction, but I'm not sure I ship them. I think Moz is a bald little black dress character for me - I could ship him with anyone in the right circumstances?
6) I don't think I'd change him, but I'd love to know more backstory.
7) I don't think we'd have very much to talk about if we met in real life. In fact, the only reason he wouldn't swindle me out of my possessions is that I don't own any art to begin with.
8) He's neither my favourite nor the opposite.
9) I'd praise him as one of the show's most pleasant surprises - a Bumbling Sidekick who is capable, awesome, and has an equal relationship with our dashing hero.
10) Well, he's less popular than Neal, but I think most fans like him. It's hard not to, really.
Re: Regarding the Moz
Date: 2011-03-27 12:27 am (UTC)I'm pretty sure it's just for his French major (he's triple-majoring in French, International Studies and Women's & Gender Studies, so I can't keep track of all his projects), and he's still working on the translation. Basically he's arguing that the writing in My Immortal is so horrendous that it practically isn't English anymore, and trying to figure out how you approach translation in a case like that. He isn't going to be finished for a while, but I'll get back to you re: "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING YOU MOTHERFUKERS!" :)
Yay Moz! You're totally right about him being a Deus Ex Machina provider; I hadn't even thought of that. I just love him because it's nice to have a comic relief character who's actually competent, and whose humor comes from their personality rather than from them constantly screwing things up.
Re: Regarding the Moz
Date: 2011-03-29 12:48 pm (UTC)Wow, thank you! All my fandom activity's in English and so's most of my reading, so I'm good at colloquial English, but I always sound like a Regency rake when I'm aiming at sounding formal.
Thank you for the offer to Skype - I've not yet reached the point of "actually conversing with actual people", but when I do, I might just take you up on that offer.
[Also, khm, while you're being all offerful, I don't suppose you have a download address for Shakespeare in Love, too? I browsed all our local DVD stores, having decided to go legal for once (for luck), but none of them had it, and all the links I've found were misfires, alas. There's no rush, I probably shan't go take the exam till September!]
Your friend sounds extremely awesome. My Immortal is fascinating from a Gender Studies pov, too, because the MC (Ravyn? I don't know) is basically wish-fulfillment, oui? Or a successful parody thereof. So clearly she's also a good summary of all the extremely contradictory standards of perfection girls (even/especially the 'rebel' demographic) are expected to achieve.
Also, yeah, Hagrid is a satanist, and it's all more hilarious than it legally should be.

Date: 2011-03-29 08:12 pm (UTC)Also, to consolidate this conversation into one thread: I'm majoring in Psychology with a minor in Spanish (and possibly another one in Linguistics). So more social science-y than humanities, but I like the humanities too!
Re: Regarding the Moz
Date: 2011-04-04 08:57 pm (UTC)Thank you very much for the offer! The least constricting free upload place I know is 4shared, but that has a 500MB limit too. I'll write you if I discover a better file exchange site or a simple way for you to slice the film in two and upload the two halves, if that works for you. Just, you know, as soon as my exams cease GNAWING AT MY SOUL AND BRAIN like small carnivorous integral-gremlins.
Re: Regarding the Moz
Date: 2011-04-05 04:14 am (UTC)(...sorry, I'm really tired.)
I'm going to pull the schoolwork-eating-my-brain card as well, because I didn't even think about splitting the file. I can totally do that. It'll probably have to wait until the weekend; I'm trying to run an experiment this week for my research methods class, and every single thing that could possibly go wrong has. Once I make it out of the soul-sucking inferno that is data collection, though, I'll send you the movie.
